Monday I wanted to relax, but Mom decided that we should get our teeth checked ASAP, so she called up our dentist cousin and arranged a visit this afternoon. Aside from getting a filling redone and all my teeth thoroughly (and I do mean thoroughly--it hurt quite a bit) de-plaqued, not much else happened.

While waiting for my brother to get his teeth checked, I read in the paper that a surgeon at the hospital where my dad works was accused of sexual harassment by a great number of nurses and other staff. Apparently they have filed numerous complaints over the past few years--but never formally--so the case had been covered up till now. It boiled to a head when the victims decided to get together and fax their story to all the major news agencies. For more info see the original story (sorry, I have yet to find a suitable translation).

On Tuesday my mother took my sister and me to the bank for some errands. I had to go back several times to finish up some paperwork, which was rather annoying, but as a treat Mom bought some tasty dishes for lunch. Mom stopped by Tailam Oankoe and got several bowls of 碗粿 (oankoe) and 虱目魚羹 (satbak'hiken), which we wolfed down in an instant. The former is a rice dish prepared and cooked in a bowl, and is served with a sweet, gravy-like sauce; embedded in the polenta-like rice dish is a mixture of meats and vegetables. The latter is a thick soup with nuggets of fish cake and vegetables.
