I got my fix of Messiah yesterday afternoon at Kresge. I think I'm all set for another year or so.

Rumor has it there's a Messiah concert this coming Sunday at 3pm in Kresge Theatre. Anyone interested?

Since Sunday I've been settling into my room. One of my roommates A got married on Saturday and has moved in with her husband R, so I'm moving into A's room and our new roommate E into mine. With the tremendous help of [livejournal.com profile] jadia, [livejournal.com profile] lokiect, [livejournal.com profile] narya, and one of A's bridesmaids C, I moved all my stuff Sunday and got most of the furniture settled. Last night [livejournal.com profile] lokiect and I moved one of A's bookshelves down to our living room, and I reawakened my rusty CAT5-crimping-fu to wire up my new room. Already the apartment feels different without A, and I have this feeling I'll be missing her greatly.

(And working in reverse chronological order...) A's wedding was a blast! )

But the Best Man wasn't content with just having a wedding party, pre-party, pre-pre-party, and a post-party.... )

And going back to Friday--K and S came into town for a conference! So happy! )

I went to see the movie version of Rent last night with [livejournal.com profile] lokiect, [livejournal.com profile] schnerf, and [livejournal.com profile] unequilibrated. Thank goodness for Puccini.

This morning, I picked up the Metro and turned my attention to the eleven-page "Fall Arts Preview" section. You'd think that being in a city full of concert halls and theaters that it'd be hard not to attend at least a few shows. Yet the only non-MIT show I've been to in Boston is the Blue Man Group (barring any holes in my feeble memory).

So I've decided I should at least try to attend a few concerts and shows this fall. I've listed below a few from the Metro that have inspired me (along with select quotes):

What's the acoustic equivalent of a mental image? Mental music? I'm thinking of starting a collection of ones that amuse me, and so far I have the following:
  • Luciano Pavarotti singing "In the middle" by Jimmy Eat World
  • Big band jazz rendition of the Super Mario Brothers 2 theme song
In other news, my sandwich bread got moldy (and it's only Midweek! according to German). So I improvised and threw together a salad with spring greens, shredded sandwich meat, blueberries, and croutons crumbled from [livejournal.com profile] thomasyan's nigh-indestructible toast. It is very tasty.

Yesterday the shuttle to work was having trouble going up a sloped driveway, and could not make it even after all of us passengers disembarked. The driver ended up solving this problem by reversing direction and backing up the slope, which the bus did with remarkable ease. So how does it work that the bus cannot go up the slope forwards, but can do so perfectly fine backwards?

This morning I woke up with the opening theme of Karekano stuck in my head. I didn't realize where it came from until I thought about my dream earlier last night, in which I was spelling out the song's lyrics to some random people.
