I just had a dream about completely made-up people I'd never encountered. The details aren't terribly important--there's some kind of hostage/threat scenario involving a gun-toting terrorist who didn't seem to have a fixed gender, and a man who was later randomly joined by his presumed wife and father. But I was not involved at all in this dream, except for being the dream's "cameraman", so to speak. I'm guessing this sort of thing is kind of common (but not frequent)? Then again I could just be weird.

Rice

I have a new userpic, courtesy of a TV series. It might be a wee bit too scary looking.

Last night I had a series of dreams that I couldn't quite piece together. At the very end I was trying to decorate a bowl of rice--I lined a small bowl with saran wrap, stuffed it with rice, and flipped it over on to a plate to make a cute little mound. Then I wanted to squirt a squiggle of Sriracha sauce on top and garnish it with a sprig of mint. But somehow it turned into a mound of custard. [livejournal.com profile] puffy_wuffy and [livejournal.com profile] brief_life were involved in this epicurean madness but I don't remember how.

Upon waking up this gave me the inspiration of making a half-white-rice, half-brown-rice mound. It seems like too much effort without a special occasion though.

I had a series of random dreams last night, but could only remember two of them in any detail: in one, [livejournal.com profile] damselfrog sat next to her flock of younger siblings and was telling us how they needed to be weaned off the evil television. In the other, I helped [livejournal.com profile] lokiect look for a bug she was working on, and discovered that it was the etched text on the ends of canned fruit (peaches and maraschino cherries in syrup).

Speaking of which, it will be summer soon, and that means peach season! Do we get peaches for 99 cents a pound this year? At a party I went to Saturday, there was a movie playing in the background that involved shag carpeting, bad hair, and apples for 15 cents a pound! How did apples get so expensive now?

So there I was in the kitchen with a saucepan on the stove, pondering whether to make spicy stir-fried eggplant, when my mother came in with a sandwich-like concoction comprised of cheese, white bread with its crust removed, and some intriguing filling. I took a large bite and fell instantly in love with it. Then I woke up and felt an intense craving for food.

It was 3am when I had this dream, and I so wish I could remember what was in that sandwich.

This morning I woke up with the opening theme of Karekano stuck in my head. I didn't realize where it came from until I thought about my dream earlier last night, in which I was spelling out the song's lyrics to some random people.

I had trouble sleeping last night, because my mind drifted off to a problem, which I record below. I make no guarantees with respect to coherence :)

Say that you have a set of tuples (puv), where p is a point on the x-y plane, u and v are positive integers, and u > v. One of the tuples is the origin tuple, (p0u0v0), and no two tuples share the same point.

A run is a nonrepeating sequence of n such tuples (pi, ui, vi), starting with the origin tuple, where any sum u0 + v1 + v2 ... + vi is at least ui+1.

Let's say the length of the run is the sum of all the distances between adjacent pi and pi+1 points in the sequence, and the size of the run is the sum u0 + v1 + v2 ... + vn.

the actual problem, maybe )

Then my head went "BA-NA-NA" and I decided I should forget about this and go to bed. Maybe I'm mad.
