Camping

I went car-camping this past weekend! It was great. There was much swimming, canoeing, and grilling. We played some water polo, visited Twinkle Town mini-golf (with 24 flavors of soft serve!), and hiked up Mt. Monadnock. [livejournal.com profile] arkadiatri hauled a watermelon and pineapple with him up to the summit, where we consumed the fruit with relish. K gave three of us (me, [livejournal.com profile] lokiect, and [livejournal.com profile] unequilibrated) a ride back on Sunday, and we had dinner at the Acton Friendly's before heading home.

- Apparently I do sunburn, but I've never been out in the sun long enough for it to be a problem. Thank goodness [livejournal.com profile] poissonvert has a biiig bottle of aloe gel.

- We kind of overran the grocery store we hit Friday afternoon. There were two checkout lines, one on each side of the cigarette counter, and our two full shopping carts put one of them out of commission for a while. It's amazing though what one can get in a small-town grocery store in New Hampshire--I found soy milk and fresh pineapples and pastry blenders! Plus there was a nice ("cozy") liquor section in the back, with liquor, beer, and worms ("crawlers").

- K and [livejournal.com profile] unequilibrated tried to teach me how to dive. I didn't belly flop! Maybe I'll hit the Z-center pool at some point and try diving some more.

- [livejournal.com profile] unequilibrated, [livejournal.com profile] arkadiatri, and I took a canoe out onto the lake, where we admired the lilypads, water striders ([livejournal.com profile] unequilibrated called them "Jesusfish"), minnows, and ducks. On the opposite side of the lake we found a public beach full of little children playing on large inflatable floating plastic playgrounds. Along the shore were lakehouses with interesting architecture, like the boxy Colonial with a screened porch the entire length of the first floor, or the yellow house with a rounded protrusion (?) full of bay windows.
