Movie! Museums! and Miscellany
Apr. 30th, 2007 12:40 pmAnyone want to go see Hot Fuzz with me this weekend? It's by the same people who did Shaun of the Dead, and I'm in need of some gratuitous violence (though probably not enough to warrant seeing Grindhouse). I was thinking of seeing it Saturday evening, though apparently none of the movie or cinema websites will tell me when/if it's playing this coming weekend. One of the sites claims that only Spiderman 3 is playing at Loews Common on Saturday, which although doubtful could be a fun alternate.
Also, May is Museum Month [requires Flash] for people banking with the Evil Empire(TM). I want to go on a few museum excursions! Though I could have sworn that the museum selection used to be much bigger. Now it seems there are four eligible museums in the Boston area, and the next closest is DeCordova.
In other news, I was on my way to the ATM yesterday, and while I was waiting to cross College Ave from Davis Square, a minivan pulled up in front of me, and a couple of clowns inside started asking me for directions. I am not making this up (to borrow from Dave Barry). The clown in the passenger seat had a couple sheets of Mapquest printouts and wanted to know how to get to Harvard.... namely, North Harvard St in Brighton. I kinda hemmed and hawed and gave them directions to get to Mass Ave, and felt a bit guilty about not giving them better guidance. It was only later when I talked to
jadia that I realized they would have been screwed regardless (I thought of Fresh Pond Parkway afterwards, but it might not actually be any less confusing, considering that the clowns came from the suburbs).
Today my commute to work hit most of my annoyance triggers: feeling late running out the door (sorry
lokiect), people who walk slowly on the sidewalk but don't leave room on either side, the Metro hawker who's too timid/slow to pass out papers to people in a hurry, the turnstiles that refuse to open even after you've inserted your CharlieTicket and carefully avoided stepping inside until it spit the ticket back out, and the guy who likes to leisurely climb the stairs smack dab in the middle so you can't pass him. But my lunch consists of baked chicken rubbed with Goya Adobo, garlic chives, and bok choy. So that makes up for everything?

Re: Directions.
Sometimes all you can say is "Do this, do that, and then ask for directions again"

Date: 2007-04-30 05:23 pm (UTC)Yeah, in the end I think the clowns realized that the roads were too complicated and saved me by saying they'll ask for directions again once they hit Harvard Square. I am still a bit taken aback by the surreal experience.
