Food adventure!

jadia, lokiect, and I went on a shopping spree at the Brighton Super 88 mid-morning yesterday. We procured fresh vegetables, fruits, snacks, cans, and frozen goodies, though the freezer was kind of cleared out by the time we got there.

Since I got most all the necessary ingredients, next in my queue of food adventures will be radish and meatball soup (菜頭貢丸湯). But instead of Chinese okra (菜瓜), I got a suspicious-looking "water squash", which I have not been able to identify, despite combing the internet for members of the Cucurbitaceae family. It's slightly squishy and has a black-and-green spotty pattern on the skin. We'll see if it works out okay....

i've seen something that matches that description here. Generally avoided it, as i haven't a clue how to cook it properly

As it turns out, steaming seems to do just fine. It looks just like any other squash on the inside, which was mildly disappointing, since I was expecting something of a surprise :-)
