ilaiI have this feeling that if I don't document how fabulous my commute was yesterday, I would be doomed to repeat it :-)
I left my apartment around 8:15am and walked to the Davis Square T stop. There I waited for perhaps 25 minutes for a train to arrive, and got to Alewife at 8:45am. Since the Alewife Shuttle seemed to have run on time, it wasn't until 9:30am till I saw the next shuttle come in, all the while standing out in the frozen chill with my fellow commuters. But when I took out my pass, the shuttle driver stuttered that he was driving the 9:00am shuttle, which does not go to my office, and that the buses were all running 20 minutes late.
I got off the bus feeling a bit defeated, at which point I saw the actual 9:30am shuttle pull in. I jumped on the bus along with a horde of other riders, and finally got to work a little before 10:00am.
A productive day at work ensued....
I got down to the lobby around 5:35pm as usual, and waited with three other men between the two sets of lobby doors for warmth. I sighed and pulled out some lovely reading material, expecting a long wait. About 6:10pm or so, the Alewife shuttle appeared--but approaching from the wrong direction, using the entrance it normally doesn't, and proceeded to pull away. A few of us chased after the shuttle in vain. One man decided to call the 128 Business Council so they can radio the shuttle to come back, but no one picked up, so he left an angry message.
We then decided to head for the office building across the street, which is a stop on the final, 7:00pm shuttle. A car soon pulled over, and a nice man rolled down his window to ask if we needed a ride; he explained that he needed to go to Waltham for an errand first and then swing by Alewife, however, so we declined. A 70A bus going to Central Square (Cambridge) via Watertown stopped in front of us around 6:55pm, and seeing as the shuttles weren't being altogether reliable, we hopped on. After reading about 25 pages of Crime and Punishment, I arrived at Central Square (finally!) at 8:00pm.
