Insight and inspiration on a tea cup
Apr. 28th, 2003 11:35 pmThe other day when I went out to Mr. Sushi, I noticed that the tea cups had some writing, of which I made out all but one of the characters. It appears that the saying is (in full) 人生是七跌八起, or roughly translated, "in life one falls seven times but rises eight."
Food for thought (in Chinese)
(Google seems to think that 七倒八起 is more common, though other variants such as 七轉八起 (七転び八起き) also exist.)
