Sudden inexplicable consumeristic urges

Just now I looked out the window at the snow-blanketed parking lot and local flora. My immediate thought turned to procuring a digital camera so I can take pictures of this and other scenery and post them, send them to friends and family, etc. I am also reminded that my parents want me to scan in and burn a copy of all my childhood photos from an album recently dug out of storage, and that B&H has a lovely scanner for under $50 in their catalogue.

This sudden spate of materialistic desire is a bit disconcerting. But not long ago, narya convinced (goaded?) me to buy an iPod, and that has turned out to be OK.

I think I need to contemplate this a bit more.

Not my fault!

I kind of want a digital camera for bike trips, but haven't convinced myself that the price for the quality/size I want is good enough yet. At some point, my toy budget will accomodate it...

For one-time scanning, parking yourself in SIPB might be a win. The film scanner is nice and lets you scan negatives a strip at a time, but it's really sensitive to dust; you can see that on some of the things I've scanned there.

I have at least two or three hundred photos in the album, and unfortunately I think I have negatives for only a couple of them. Would SIPB mind, and would the scanner be fast enough that I wouldn't have to sit there for an entire day?
