Veggies that don't need a lot of attention

Revelations from this weekend:
  • Asparagus is tasty even without salt
  • Stir-fried leeks and steamed butternut squash go together fairly well
  • Pork looks different from beef (sorry, not a veggie)
The last of the revelations should have been obvious, but remembering how a beef dish should look makes cooking the same dish with pork confusing (if, like me, you weren't paying attention).

maybe we're on parallel food tracks! my recent discoveries are that asparagus is awfully tasty when not overcooked, not even a little; that acorn squash makes a really tasty risotto; and that the red-cooked pork recipe in Joy of Cooking works really well with chicken.
