Typographical horror

My dear little heart broke when I saw this photograph of the craigslist office in the Metro on the way to work this morning. Does anyone else wince when they see it? If you do, don't visit the "valet parking" sign at the Hotel@MIT either (next to the University Park Star Market).

*twitch* Although my guess is that a g in the same font won't have fit into the same vertical space.

The "g" is in fact in the same font. But whoever mounted the "g" did a terrible job.

Is it actually a mistake? I would have assumed it was supposed to be "cool" or "trendy" like putting Ks and random capital letters in words.

The "g" in Times Roman (the same font they use on their website, and not Times New Roman) shouldn't look like that--it appears that the white ellipse that creates the top counter is rotated 90 degrees, and placed slightly higher in the second "g". I'm assuming that the text is composed of some black backing, and white shapes were stuck onto it to create the insides of the letters; the same mistake was made in the "g" of "valet parking" at Hotel@MIT, which was why I suspect this is not intentional. Plus anything that makes font-lovers squirm can't be that trendy ;-)
