Spicy food for ignorant partaker

Friday night I went to Dok Bua, a Thai restaurant on Harvard St near Coolidge Corner, with [livejournal.com profile] lokiect and a bunch of other people. Under the salad menu there was a dish called "larb" that had lemongrass, onions, toasted rice, and meat (beef, chicken, or pork). I got the chicken larb with sticky rice.

I ate half the dish and my mouth started hurting. A lot. Unbeknownst to me, larb can be extremely spicy. It doesn't hit you at first, but soon your mouth starts stinging and you've drunk a whole glass of water.

I finished the rest of the tasty larb, but I decided not to drench the ground chicken in the sauce pooling underneath (like I did before). Next time I order larb I'm going to get a tall glass of milk tea to go with it, and not drink it all before the food comes.
